A private houseboat night on the Alleppey backwaters

Alleppey, also called Alappuzha, is where most Kerala honeymoons find their most memorable evening. A private houseboat glides through palm-lined canals and across Vembanad Lake, with meals cooked on board and a quiet night moored on the water. Packages with an Alleppey houseboat start from ₹27,500 per couple, without flights.

The houseboat is booked only for you, with a bedroom, an attached bathroom and a crew that handles the cruise and the cooking. Check-in is usually around noon, and the boat cruises through the afternoon until it is moored for the night.

Alleppey or Kumarakom?

Alleppey has more houseboats and livelier canals, while Kumarakom is quieter, with lake-side resorts and plenty of birdlife. Both give you a private night on the water. Choose Alleppey for the classic backwater cruise and Kumarakom for a calmer stretch.

Best time for a houseboat honeymoon

From October to March the weather is comfortable and the canals are at their best. During the monsoon from June to August the backwaters turn green and rates are lower, and houseboats keep running unless the water level is unsafe.

    Is the houseboat private?

    Yes. On our honeymoon packages the houseboat is booked for the two of you and is never shared.

    Is there air conditioning on the houseboat?

    Deluxe houseboats have air-conditioned bedrooms, and the air conditioning runs from 9 pm to 6 am.

    How long is the houseboat stay?

    Check-in is usually around noon and check-out is the next morning. We confirm the exact timings when we send your plan.

    Alleppey or Kumarakom: which is better for a honeymoon?

    Alleppey is livelier with more canals to cruise. Kumarakom is quieter, with lake-side resorts. We can arrange your private houseboat in either place.

    Can we combine Alleppey with Munnar?

    Yes. Most couples spend two nights in Munnar and then one night on the houseboat. We can also add Thekkady, Kovalam or Marari.
