The Complete Kerala Honeymoon Checklist: Book, Pack and Budget

Planning a honeymoon right after a wedding can feel overwhelming. Between wedding preparations, family commitments and work, the honeymoon details often get left to the last minute. This checklist covers everything you need to book, pack and budget for a Kerala honeymoon, in the order you should do it.

3 to 4 months before: book the essentials

Most of our honeymoon couples confirm their trip three to four months before travel. That is when the best stays are still available, especially for December to February.

  • Fix your dates. Allow at least a few days’ gap after the wedding for rest and family functions.
  • Decide your budget. Include flights, the package, shopping and a buffer. A typical 5-day Kerala honeymoon costs around ₹45,000 per couple before flights. See our Kerala honeymoon cost guide.
  • Choose the length. Four days is the minimum; five or six days is ideal. Read how many days you need.
  • Pick your special stays. Pool villas, jacuzzi suites, treehouses and premium private houseboats have limited rooms and sell out first.
  • Book flights. Fares rise closer to travel dates. Ask for a quote with flights included from your city.
  • Confirm payment terms. Get the advance amount, balance due date and cancellation policy in writing.

1 to 2 months before: plan the details

  • Confirm the itinerary day by day, including hotel names, room categories and meal plans.
  • Choose honeymoon extras: candlelight dinner, flower-bed decoration, cake, couple photoshoot, spa sessions.
  • Tell us your food preferences: vegetarian, Jain, no seafood, less spicy, or any allergies.
  • Plan any special occasions: a birthday during the trip, or a surprise for your partner.
  • Get travel insurance if you want cover for cancellations and medical emergencies.
  • Apply for leave and plan a buffer day after returning before going back to work.

2 weeks before: documents and practicalities

  • ID proof: carry original government photo ID for both of you. Hotels require ID for every guest at check-in.
  • Marriage certificate: not usually required, but some couples carry a copy or a photo of it, especially if their IDs show different addresses.
  • Booking documents: keep digital and printed copies of flights, hotel vouchers and the itinerary.
  • Emergency contacts: save your travel agent’s and driver’s numbers.
  • Payments: pay the balance as agreed. Keep a card and some cash, as smaller shops and rural areas may prefer cash or UPI.

What to pack

  • Light cotton clothes for the coast and backwaters.
  • A jacket or sweater for Munnar; warmer layers from November to February.

  • Modest clothing for temples and churches.
